I’m participating in Top Ten Tuesday again, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish… This week is a freebie to pick your own topic. I missed this topic last month, and I love this topic, so stick around and see what my top ten favorite books quotes are today! Then, head over to The Broke and the Bookish to see what topics other readers choose this week.
“And in that moment, I swear we were infinite.”
Seems fitting, what with the movie trailer just being premiered this weekend at the MTV Movie Awards, that I would chose this quote from The Perks of Being a Wallflower. There is something so genuine and accurate about this quote that absolutely captured me. If you haven’t read this book, you should.
“For children love is a feeling; for adults, it is a decision. Children wait to learn if their love is true by seeing how long it lasts; adults make their love true by never wavering from their commitment.”
Although I only gave Pathfinder 3 stars on goodreads, this quote really resonated with me. The topic of love is always a difficult concept to explain, but this almost sums it up.
“Daughterhood creates as much of an action verb, as much of a sense of place in the world, as being a mother does.”
Mothers and Other Liars was an incredibly touching book about a perception of motherhood I’d never thought of before. It was beautiful and heartbreaking. I am very close with my mom, so when i read this i texted it to my mom. Love it!
“I’ve thought myself out of happiness one million times, but never once into it.”
Everything is Illuminated was not my favorite book, but I can appreciate a well written novel. I feel like this quote is the story of my life, and acknowledging this was a huge step for me! It was like actually becoming aware of just how much control I have over my own thought process, if I can just exercise it.
In time we hate that which we often fear.
Shakespeare was a man of many wise words. Self explanatory.
The price of a memory is the memory of the sorrow it brings
Rather profound words from I am Number Four.
With a secret like that, at some point the secret itself becomes irrelevant. The fact that you kept it does not.
Water for Elephants
If you want to know what a man’s like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
The reason it hurts so much to separate is because our souls are connected.
The Notebook
Love, after all, always said more about those who felt it than it did about the ones they loved.
The Best of Me
But a lot of times, people die how they live. And so last words tell me a lot about who people were, and why they became the sort of people biographies get written about.
Looking for Alaska
“You love me. Real or not real?”
I tell him, “Real.”
Mockingjay
Do you have any favorite book quotes? There are just so many to choose from, I could keep going all day. What do you think of my list??
Thanks for stopping by!!
Agh, i LOVE quotes SO MUCH! Some fantastic choices here! thanks for stopping by!
Oh my! Love the one form Mockingjay, Water for Elephants and The Notebook. Especially Mockingjay! Great list! 😀
Thanks for dropping by! 😀
I’m glad you like my quotes!! 🙂 Mockingjay was the only one i hesitated about, since you really had to read it to get it, but I figured most of the people stopping by would have read it! Thanks for the comment!
Great quotes! I really want to read Perks of Being a Wallflower, I am looking forward to seeing the movie.
You should definitely read the book before the movie! But not too close, in case there are some big differences that distract you. I can’t wait to see it! Thanks for stopping by!
Great list of quotes!!! Anyone who quotes The Perks of Being a Wallflower earns “points” in my book. Cannot wait for September.
Me either- i hope the movie doesn’t let us down! Thanks for the points 🙂
I love the quote about fear. I was over fifty before I realized how much fear hurts us.
I try really hard to not let fear control me, but some times I cant help it. Acknowledging is the first step though, right? Thanks for stopping by!
Wow, I love ALL of those quotes. Great picks! Thanks for stopping by my Top Ten Rewind.
I’m glad you like them! Thanks! 🙂
What a great topic. I love book quotes.
Me too! I feel like there are just so many good quotes to be discovered in books!
I’m always amazed at people who can remember lines – or remember to make note of them as they’re reading! I can never remember them and I’m always forgetting to mark pages. Though I did note that Dumbledore quote in my review – it’s just so apt isn’t it?
I remember that line from Water for Elephants too – I found it quite profound when I read it, and then later of course I forgot all about it. Thanks for compiling these, they make for great reading!
Half the time I misplace my journal where I write the quotes down, so keeping up with quotes can make me feel a bit scatterbrained. Thanks for stopping by!
Harry Potter 😀 These books have the most amazing quotes.
I also like the Shakespeare quote. He’s a genious. And the one from Pathfinder is nice too 🙂 Thanks for sharing, I love book quotes.

Glad you liked them! Thanks for stopping by!
I loved that you picked quotes. I think the I Am Number Four and the Harry Potter quotes were my favorite.
Thanks for stopping by!
I have a thing for quotes! I was surprised to find a good one in I Am Number Four! Thanks for the comment! 🙂
Love book quotes. You’ve collected some great ones. I’m trying to devise a way to keep up with mine now. It never fails that I want to call it forth & it is lost to my lack of brain.
I have a little book/journal thing where i write my favorite quotes – inspired by A Walk to Remember. Sometimes I look back and the quote doesn’t apply to me as much as it did when i first wrote it down, but i hope to pass it on one day.
That quotation from Goblet of Fire totally resonated with me as well. I’ve used it many times since first reading it. Brilliant!
What a great list!
JK Rowling is so amazingly brilliant. Love her. Thanks for the comment! 🙂
I JUST ordered The Perks of Being a Wallflower from the library when I saw the trailer. How is it possible I have never read this!? And John Green is 100% quotable 100% of the time. Great to see other quotes from Looking for Alaska besides the drizzle one (not that it isn’t good, but I like your choice better!)
I only read Perks last year, and I thought the same thing- how did i miss this! I wish i had read it when I was in high school – i wonder what significance I would have found at that time. Also, there are way too many John Green quotes, it was difficult to choose just one! I think the drizzle quote was too popular, I wanted to choose something more obscure 🙂
Thanks for stopping by!
I like the Harry Potter quote you posted… There are so many such wonderful quotes throughout the series, aren’t there? Great list!
It was hard to choose just one HP quote. There are just so many. Love the series! Thanks for stopping by!
Great list! This was one of my favo
Sorry… Broken comment… This list was one of my favorites! I especially love the quote from Mockingjay.
I love that quote from Mockingjay as well but i wondered about putting it on my list. It’s very contextual, where the others sort of stand on their own. But i LOVE that quote, so i put it anyway! Thanks for stopping by!
Terrific list! Love that Water for Elephants quote even though I didn’t read it yet 🙂
You definitely need to read it! Thanks for stopping by 🙂
Amazing quotes! I love all of them especially the ones from Looking for Alaska and Mockingjay.
Its hard to pick just 10 (or 11, in my case. ha!) Thanks for stopping by!
Oh, the comment from Perks of Being a Wallflower is my FAVORITE! So great and I can’t wait for the movie! Thanks for stopping by on my blog! 🙂
I can’t wait to see it either 🙂
These are amazing quotes, I love the ones from The Notebook and I Am Number Four. Great choice of topic! Thanks for visiting my post. 🙂
Thanks!! And thank you for stopping by as well 🙂
The quote from I Am Number Four (“The price of a memory is the memory of the sorrow it brings”) is actually a line from a Counting Crows song called Mrs. Potter’s Lullaby. It’s a great song with a lot of great lyrics, and it’s my favorite of theirs. It’s long, but if you love that quote you should check out the song!
That is awesome- i had no idea it was from a song. I think a lot of quotes in books/tv came from either other books or songs. I’ll have to check it out. Thanks for the info and for stopping by!
I always loved that quote from Perks of Being a Wallflower. I remember copying it out into notebooks and posting it in my then-Live Journal. I knew it the second I saw it, though I never would have remembered it for one of these lists. I don’t hold onto the quotes I love well enough.
Thank you for stopping by my blog recently and commenting on my Top Ten post. 🙂 I love all of your quotes you choose. I still need to read Water for Elephants. 🙂
